Well, we have quite the collection for you this week! But first, please take a moment to look at our Anniversay Contest</b>. There are only seven days left to get those entries in (photography and/or literature submissions accepted), and the prizes are pretty kick-ass.
Now with that out of the way...
ostit: Two weeks ago we asked our participants to make us laugh using this picture for inspiration:
OOPS wrong turn
by DanidaeSkye
There were some rather entertaining entries, but this one stood out:
Three Men and a Bug by HaveTales-WillTell
Other notable contributions:
Spontaneity by Shazbar
A Meands To An End by AstarteKatz
Herbie is dead by chichirii
Impressions by littlemissmoody
Wrong turn by 007-Kildgeek
Tubby the Buggy by dead-poetess-society
And, for the first time, fotoFRIDAY received a photography entry in response to our weekly prompt:
Captain speaking by DFour
ostit: Not really in the mood to laugh? Well then, maybe last week's photograph would provide more inspiration:
Follow me
by gltvisualart
This week had quite a few people taking risks and wandering into unfamiliar territory, and fotoFRIDAY applauds those effots. windwater took a chance at writing her first story in French for La Fin, and HaveTales-WillTell tried his hand at a Villanelle in Her Side of the Story (and also in A Poor Man's Villanelle). However, there were two entries that really stood out:
Follow the Leader by Debunkd
Gloves by MsCellanea
Other notable entries:
Poetry
13th Lane by littlemissmoody
Streets by Fushball
Illuminate the NOs by AstarteKatz
Le Ballon Rouge by AbCat
Prose
Stop the Fucking Apocalypse by CoreyMikaVerLeth
Kat by fairyleaves
a crazy world by govro
And now what you've all been waiting for! (fotoFRIDAY turns 50!)
fotoFRIDAY L: Spotlights on Courage
This week we challenge you to explore life in the spotlight with this wonderful photograph:
stage
by detail24
The concept is simple: write a poem, story, or short sketch inspired by the given picture. You can use the picture as a major component of your writing or just a small sliver--there is no definite rule in that regard. Want to write about sunsets? Sunrises? Drunken escapades on the beach? Love? Cell phones? Religion? Choices? The influence of Kantian ethics on Nietzsche's reading of Kierkegaard's interpretation of Cain and Abel? Go for it! The only limit is your own imagination. Consider this a weekly prompt to get those creative juices flowing.
After that, it's up to you to upload your writing as either a scrap or deviation in your gallery and paste the link in a comment to the fotoFRIDAY prompt journal.
See how easy that is? Then why are you still reading this? Get writing!
Entries for this week's prompt are due 12:00AM (EST) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007.

Too Many Roman Numerals
What am I talking about? No one can possibly have enough roman numerals! :P
A few notes before we hop into this week's prompt. First, I'd like to take a moment to remind our writers that when uploading your writing to dA (or anywhere else!) you cannot use the photograph as a thumbnail without the permission of the photographer. If you've uploaded a photograph without permission, please contact the photographer or pull down the thumbnail. It's okay to post a piece of writing without a thumbnail, too!
We've been off to a slow start this month, but there's been plenty of good writing to go around, as you can see on the
fotoFRIDAY LXXXIV: Accidents
Happy Accidents
It's a bird! It's a plane! No wait, it's FRIDAY! :excited:
Last week's fotoFRIDAY started us off on the right foot (pun intended, forgive me); we had a few fantastic entries which will be highlighted in our bi-weekly newsletter -- keep an eye out for it this Thursday! There was some great writing in there.
Sometimes our best work is the writing we didn't look to create with a specific purpose in mind. This week's featured photographer, the lovely Mollinda (https://www.deviantart.com/mollinda), explains that she "likes the accidents more than the intended most of the time" and a lot of writers find that true of their own art as well. So let's see what
fotoFRIDAY LXXXIII: Stepping Forward
Welcome back to fotoFRIDAY (https://www.deviantart.com/fotofriday), ladies and gents. :salute:
Over the past years, we've been blessed with photographers who have been willing to give us their art in order to inspire our own. When restarting this project, we were once again blessed with a group of fantastic volunteers and seniors who offered their work to us, including this week's featured piece by FixMeKnow (https://www.deviantart.com/fixmeknow) (who is a long-time favorite photographer of mine, but shhh!). Get ready for some exciting weeks of photography from deviantART's finest! And don't forget -- your own or favorite photography can be featured too! Just note or email us with any suggestions and we'll be
We're now a group!
Thanks to the lovely Community Relations team for giving us the opportunity to convert to a group!
As you can see by our fancy countdown, fotoFRIDAY is coming back for its grand return on Friday the 13th (oooh, spooky). Memberships are open and we encourage you to join up and participate! I am also very pleased to announce that RetroZombie (https://www.deviantart.com/retrozombie) will be helping manage fotoFRIDAY as our photography manager! :excited: Both of us happen to be taking a wee bit of a summer vacation, but once we're back, we'll be ready to take your suggestions and get writing with all of you again!
In the meantime: if you're interested in helping fotoFRIDA
